Then, cross the right section under the middle section of hair, and then cross the left section under the new middle section. Repeat this by adding thin sections of hair from left to right. To make sure you achieve the perfect Dutch braid cross the hair under not over!

The Braided Headband Hairstyle

dutch braids, best braids, newcastle hair & beauty salonThink you need a new headband? Think again! This funky look uses your own hair as a trendy headband! Also, this plait works on any length hair so is perfect for everyone, and it’s a great style to wear half up and half down.

First, start with freshly washed hair (but damp or dry is fine too). Then, section a large piece of hair roughly from your crown to behind your ears. After this, separate your hair into three equal sections. Then, cross the left section over the middle section, and then the right section over the new middle section. Repeat this process until you run out of hair. Finally, secure your braid with a hair tie and pin the end of the plaited ponytail behind your ear with a bobby pin.

Use the pancake technique to make your plait appear thicker and flatter. Just use your fingers to pull at the sections of the plait to loosen it and make it lie flat like a pancake!

Fishtail Plaits

dutch braids, best braids, newcastle hair & beauty salonFishtail plaits are the ultimate bo-ho look that can also be worn sleek and smooth if you wanted to. If this is your first time doing a fishtail braid then try a side ponytail to start.

First, split your hair into two equal parts before creating a smaller third section from the outside of the ponytail. Then, pull the small section across the top of the larger section from left to right, and then repeat this process from right to left.

Keep doing these steps until you run out of hair. Finally, secure with a hair tie and spray with a finishing product for extra hold. If your plait looks messy or tousled, don’t worry, this creates a relaxed bo-ho look.

Top Tips to Keep Your Plaits & Braids Looking Fab

Braids and plaits can work loose throughout the day which can create a trendy look. However, if you prefer for your braided hairstyle to stay in place, follow these top tips to keep your plaits in line.

·         Adding styling product to your hair will make it easier to grip – such as hairspray or dry shampoo.

·         The smaller the sections of hair, the tighter the plait. So, for a chunky plait, use thicker sections.

·         Plait your hair tightly in the morning and then unravel later on in the day for beautiful beach babe waves.

·         Adding hair accessories to your braid will hide any pins or hair ties.

·         Pop into our Newcastle hair salon and ask our skilled stylists for top tips and recommended products to get your hair in the best shape possible for beautiful braids.
